On May 21, 2017, 42 brigaders from various walks of life traveled to Honduras for our 3rd annual brigade. We traveled to the communities of El Corral Falso, El Guayacán, and El Ocote. In total, we provided medical care to 469 people and dental checkups to 48 people. Additionally, as part of our public health portion, we helped 6 families build latrines for their houses.
In El Guayacán, the first community we visited, we learned about the Global Brigades Holistic Model and how Global Brigades continues to work with communities long after each brigade returns home. We also gave a presentation about HIV prevention to a group of adolescents.
El Corral Falso
For our Medical portion, we traveled to El Corral Falso, where we helped local doctors triage over 400+ patients, taught children proper oral hygiene, and assisted dentists in providing dental care.
For our Public Health portion, we traveled to El Ocote, nestled among steep hills, where we worked with 6 families in constructing latrines for their houses.
